What started as a hobby became a sweet mission for Reyes. Back in 2012, they attended a short course on ice cream making. From there, they bought all the necessary supplies and dedicated their Fridays for experimenting on flavors.
Later on, they hired Food Technologist Susan Brown, who was knowledgeable and experienced with dairy products, and Business Development manager Kamilah Alegre to help with their ice cream business. Both were blessings to the ice cream makers, as they directed and helped formulate the ice cream creations that Reyes and her family dreamed of having.
When asked, “why ice cream?” Reyes replied, “When we think about ice cream, we think about how happy our two kids, Avery and Conner, are when they eat it. We [also] think about how much love everyone has towards ice cream.”
Needless to say, Manila Sky was born. Its name, as mentioned by its owners, gives recognition to the Philippines. More specifically, Reyes wishes that, just as certain cultures are recognized for certain delicacies, Filipinos become known for their ice cream creations – and this is Manila Sky’s primary goal.
Today, the California-based ice cream brand offers gourmet ice cream that’s a fusion of authentic tropical ingredients mixed with California milk. The brand prides itself for its flavors inspired from classic Filipino favorites. Their products are also made from nutrient-packed ingredients that has put the Philippines on the map.
For instance, Coco Rico is made from macapuno, a type of coconut native to the Asian country, and has a “nutty” flavor. Moreover, coconuts, as shown by studies, provide vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
