Atin Ito was established in 1993 as a General Store at Broadview Avenue in downtown Toronto. It was originally established to cater to the more familiar tasty meals for Filipino migrants who have appetite for authentic Filipino delicacies. With the desire to provide a channel for those who needed to send monetary assistance to their loved ones in the Philippines, the humble store grew to be a popular money remittance vehicle. From tens to now hundreds of Filipinos make their way especially during payday to send door-to-door money remittance.
It was no longer just a hub to buy Asian food but importantly a place where most of our busy ‘kababayans’ would try to catch up with friends whom they have missed and also a good source of news updates from our native land. The huge demand from the increasing influx of migrant Filipinos living in the community, the store found its new site at Pape Avenue, a few blocks away from it’s original location. Atin Ito Pty. Ltd. is owned and managed by Mr. Eusebio Corpuz (known to everyone as ‘Ibyong’). His innate enterpreneurship took him to the next stage of his business venture. In 2003, this modest shop diversified by adding a business line called ” Balikbayan” (a door-todoor international courier delivery service) enabling the store to become a ‘One-Stop Shop for Filipinos in the City of Toronto.
